Ongoing Protests Across Europe Against Israeli Actions in Gaza
Demonstrations continue in multiple European cities condemning the Israeli military campaign in Gaza.
Protests have been ongoing across several European cities in response to the Israeli military actions in Gaza.
In Manchester, England, demonstrators rallied to call for an end to the conflict, condemning what they termed the British government's complicity in what they described as genocide against Palestinians.
Protesters demanded an immediate halt to all British arms exports to Israel, as well as the imposition of sanctions against the Israeli government.
In Paris, a solidarity march was held, advocating for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.
Demonstrators expressed condemnation of what they termed the brutality of the occupation and criticized the delayed and limited responses from Western nations.
Slogans such as "Stop the Detention Centers" were prominently displayed, drawing historical parallels to past atrocities committed during the Nazi regime.
France has experienced hundreds of demonstrations since the onset of hostilities in Gaza, marking one of the longest and largest protest movements in the country’s contemporary history.
In Greece, supporters of the Palestinian cause gathered outside the Israeli embassy in Athens, also calling for an end to the conflict.
Sweden's capital, Stockholm, witnessed a large demonstration protesting the Israeli attacks in Gaza, which included a moment of remembrance for the victims of the Mavi Marmara incident from 2010. Organizers included civil society groups, and participants carried signs proclaiming messages such as "Free Palestine, Free Gaza" and "Stop the Genocide."
On May 31, 2010, activists and journalists aboard the Mavi Marmara, part of a flotilla attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, were met with excessive force from Israeli security forces in international waters.
This incident resulted in the deaths of 10 activists and injuries to over 50 others.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli government, reportedly with firm U.S. support, has been accused of committing acts of genocide in Gaza, resulting in over 178,000 Palestinians killed or injured, many of whom are women and children, with over 11,000 reported missing and hundreds of thousands displaced from their homes.
Furthermore, Rabbi Meir Hirsch, a prominent leader of the anti-Zionist Jewish group Neturei Karta, has described the ongoing war in Gaza as a horrific crime against humanity perpetrated in the name of the Jewish people.
He denounced the alleged war crimes committed by the Israeli army against civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, asserting that such actions starkly contradicted human rights and Jewish teachings.
Hirsch emphasized the cold-blooded killing of innocent individuals and the forced displacement of thousands from their homes, calling for an immediate halt to the military campaign in Gaza and urging respect for human rights across Palestinian territories.
Neturei Karta is a religious Jewish movement that opposes Zionism and does not recognize the state of Israel on occupied Palestinian land.
The group maintains that the establishment of a Jewish state should not occur through the dispossession of another people’s land and must be sanctioned by divine authority.
Around 5,000 members of Neturei Karta reside in the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem, facing continuous persecution from Israeli authorities due to their opposition to Zionism.
The movement has an estimated membership of tens of thousands globally, with many residing in Brooklyn, New York.
