The Sudanese army successfully intercepted drones over Port Sudan on Saturday, utilizing anti-aircraft missiles as part of their defense operation.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the sounds of missile fire coming from military positions to the north and west of the city, with drones observed flying overhead.

This incident follows a pattern of aggressive drone activity in recent weeks that has seen Port Sudan, the operational center for Sudan’s military-backed government, targeted multiple times.

Last month marked the first occurrence of drone strikes in Port Sudan, attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti.

The drone attacks have focused on crucial infrastructure, including the last operational international civilian airport, power plants, and fuel depots, impacting the region's stability and the functioning of essential services.

Following nearly a week of relative calm, the resurgence of drone strikes raises concerns about the ongoing hostilities between government forces and RSF operatives, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region amidst a protracted civil conflict.
