Russell Brand Faces Multiple Sexual Assault Charges in London

Charges include rape and sexual assault spanning several years, leading to ongoing investigations by authorities.
The London Metropolitan Police reported on April 4, 2025, that comedian and actor Russell Brand has been charged with multiple offenses, including one count of rape, one count of oral rape, two charges of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.

These charges involve four women and pertain to incidents allegedly occurring between 1999 and 2005.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, representing the Metropolitan Police, confirmed that specially trained officers are providing support to the women who have come forward.

The police have encouraged anyone with information connected to this case to reach out to them as the investigation continues.

Brand is expected to appear in court in London on May 2, 2025. In response to the allegations, Brand addressed the public through a video statement, asserting that while he has made mistakes in his past, he has never engaged in non-consensual acts.

He stated, “I’ve always told you guys that when I was young and single, before I had my wife and family ...

I was a fool, man; I was a fool.” He expressed gratitude for his supporters and indicated his readiness to defend himself in court.

The charges against Brand are part of an investigation that began in September 2023 following the airing of a documentary titled "Russell Brand: In Plain Sight." This documentary, produced in collaboration with several media outlets, featured testimonies from four anonymous women who alleged that they were sexually assaulted or raped by Brand between 2006 and 2013. The Metropolitan Police began their inquiry after receiving multiple allegations of sexual offenses in the wake of this broadcast.

In addition to the current charges, Thames Valley Police have indicated they are also reviewing claims against Brand related to harassment and stalking, with some allegations dating back to 2018.

Recently, Brand discussed his past marriage to singer Katy Perry on his podcast, commenting on their relationship dynamics but clarifying that she was not involved in anything nefarious during their marriage.

Brand and Perry were married in 2010, but he filed for divorce in late 2011, citing irreconcilable differences.

Brand married Laura Gallacher in 2017, while Perry is currently engaged to actor Orlando Bloom.

The legal proceedings against Brand mark a significant moment as he confronts serious allegations that have emerged following extensive investigations into his conduct.
