Expert Group Calls for Action to Mitigate Artificial Intelligence Risks

Expert Group Calls for Action to Mitigate Artificial Intelligence Risks

A group of experts, including the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, have signed a statement calling for global action to reduce the risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI).
The statement suggests that tackling the risks from AI should be a priority alongside other societal-scale risks, such as pandemics and nuclear war.

The group is particularly concerned about the potential dangers of artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is a machine that can perform a wide range of functions and can develop its own programming.

They argue that the development of AGI could pose a risk to humanity and the planet.

The experts suggest that global leaders should be working to reduce the risk of extinction from AI technology.

The article discusses concerns about the potential biases in AI algorithms, which could be trained on racist, sexist, or politically biased material.

Sam Altman, an entrepreneur, has acknowledged the global threat posed by AI and has defended his firm's decision not to publish the source data.

He emphasizes that the important factor is how the model performs on a racial bias test, rather than the source data.

Altman states that the latest model is surprisingly non-biased, except for the headline which has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.
