6,600 Palestinian Pilgrims Arrive in Saudi Arabia for Hajj
The pilgrimage set to take place May 24-29 sees significant participation from Palestinians despite ongoing regional challenges.
A total of 6,600 Palestinian pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia over the past weeks to perform the annual Hajj rituals in Makkah.
The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs reported that these pilgrims traveled through Jordan, departing from towns and cities in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Additionally, the 700 pilgrims from the Gaza Strip arrived via Egypt.
Upon arrival, the ministry confirmed that the pilgrims are being hosted in six hotels within the Kingdom, as per the Wafa news agency's report.
Thousands of pilgrims from various nationalities, including Palestine, Jordan, and Egypt, have also been received by Saudi authorities in Khaybar governorate, located in the Madinah region.
These pilgrims arrived through the northern ports of the Kingdom starting late April, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Hajj is considered one of the five pillars of Islam, obligating every non-disabled Muslim to undertake the pilgrimage to Makkah and Madinah at least once in their lifetime.
In 2022, a total of 1,673,230 pilgrims performed Hajj, as per the General Authority for Statistics.
Among them, 166,654 were citizens or residents of Saudi Arabia, with the rest consisting of pilgrims from outside the Kingdom.
This year, an estimated 21,000 pilgrims are expected from Syria, along with approximately 8,000 others from Jordan.
Despite ongoing regional challenges, the significant participation of Palestinians in the Hajj pilgrimage reflects their dedication to this religious requirement.
