Lebanese President Vows to Stop War with Israel amid Continued Fighting

President Joseph Aoun pledges to do 'the impossible' to halt the conflict as both sides engage in military actions despite a ceasefire.
Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has declared his determination to stop the ongoing war with Israel by doing "the impossible".

This statement comes amid continued hostilities despite a ceasefire agreement and direct negotiations between the two nations failing to bring an end to the fighting. The Israeli military has been conducting strikes in southern Lebanon while Hezbollah claims to have targeted a military site in northern Israel.

Since the ceasefire began on April 17, Israel has reportedly launched further attacks, carried out demolitions, and issued evacuation orders in southern Lebanon, citing its intention to target Iran-backed Hezbollah.Hezbollah has also retaliated against Israeli forces in both south Lebanon and northern Israel.

The Lebanese President emphasized that the framework for negotiations includes an Israeli withdrawal, a ceasefire, deployment of the army along the border, return of displaced persons, and economic aid.

Aoun further stated his commitment to finding the least costly means to end the war against Lebanon and its people.A 45-day extension of the truce was recently agreed upon following a third round of talks between Lebanese and Israeli representatives in Washington.

However, despite this extension, violence has persisted.

On Monday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing a drone at an "Iron Dome" platform belonging to the Israeli military, stating it as a response to ceasefire violations. The National News Agency of Lebanon reported multiple Israeli strikes across southern regions, while the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for three Lebanese towns.

This escalation follows an incident where Israeli strikes resulted in the deaths of seven individuals in Lebanon, including a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.Furthermore, Israeli forces have occupied parts of southern Lebanon within an area declared as a 'yellow line,' approximately 10 kilometers north of the border.

They have conducted significant demolitions in this region.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that Israel faces challenges in neutralizing First-Person View (FPV) drones, a technology increasingly used by Hezbollah for strikes on Israeli forces.According to Lebanese authorities, over 2,900 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of the war, including more than 400 deaths since the ceasefire went into effect on April 17.
