Israel Confirms Killing of Hamas Armed Wing Chief Ezzedine Al-Haddad in Gaza Strike

Israeli military and Hamas confirm the death of senior Hamas commander Ezzedine Al-Haddad following an Israeli strike on Gaza.
Jerusalem: Hamas's armed wing chief, Ezzedine Al-Haddad, has been confirmed killed by Israel after a targeted airstrike in Gaza.

Both the Israeli military and Hamas have verified his death following the incident on Friday.

Since the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, Israel has been engaged in an extensive campaign targeting Hamas's senior leadership, both politically and militarily.

On Friday, the Israeli military announced its successful strike on Haddad, which was confirmed as fatal on Saturday morning.

According to a statement from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the airstrike was conducted with precision targeting Haddad in the City of Gaza.

This marks a significant event in Israel's ongoing operations against Hamas, particularly after Haddad's alleged role in orchestrating the October 7th attack, as identified by Israel.

Hamas has corroborated this information, noting that Haddad was killed alongside his family members — his wife and daughter — in the Israeli strike.

Images from the scene depicted mourners carrying Haddad's body, draped in a Hamas flag, amidst the debris of the targeted building.

The IDF also highlighted Haddad’s role in managing Hamas' hostage captivity system during the recent conflict, suggesting an effort to shield him from elimination.

Lt. Col. Eyal Zamir, Israel's military chief, commended the operation as a significant achievement, emphasizing the repeated mention of Haddad by released hostages.

The Israeli military has been responsible for numerous targeted assassinations following the October 7th attack, including key figures such as Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif.

Moreover, strikes have extended to operatives in Lebanon, particularly targeting members aligned with Hamas and Hezbollah, notably former chief Hassan Nasrallah.

Following the October 7th attack, which Israeli authorities report resulted in 1,221 deaths and the abduction of 251 hostages into Gaza, Israel launched a military campaign that has claimed over 72,700 lives in Gaza according to the territory’s health ministry, operating under Hamas authority.

The United Nations considers these figures reliable.

Despite an October ceasefire, the situation in Gaza remains volatile with ongoing strikes and allegations by both parties of ceasefire violations.

Since the truce began, at least 856 Palestinians have been killed, per the territory's health ministry reports.

In contrast, Israel has reported five soldier deaths in Gaza over the same period.
