Palestinian Man Killed by Israeli Forces in Jenin Refugee Camp

Palestinian Man Killed by Israeli Forces in Jenin Refugee Camp

Israeli forces killed a man identified as 34-year-old Nour Al-Din Kamal Hassan Fayyad on Saturday in the Jenin refugee camp, according to Palestinian health officials.
RAMALLAH: Palestinian health officials reported that Israeli forces fatally shot a man on Saturday in the vicinity of the Jenin refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank.

The victim was identified as 34-year-old Nour Al-Din Kamal Hassan Fayyad, who was said to have been killed by 'occupation forces' fire in the Jenin camp.

The Palestinian Red Crescent stated that its teams in Jenin received a man with no signs of life after he sustained a live bullet wound to the thigh.

The health ministry in Ramallah confirmed this account, emphasizing that the fatality occurred due to Israeli military action in the area.

As of the reporting date, the Israeli army had not issued an official comment on the incident.

This event took place amid ongoing tensions and conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians, particularly concerning recent escalations since the war in Gaza erupted in October 2023.

Jenin refugee camp has been a focal point of several significant military operations by Israel in recent months, as part of broader efforts to combat armed groups.

These operations have led to considerable displacement, with nearly 40,000 Palestinians affected, as documented by UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees.

The Israeli military's control measures around Jenin camp have further restricted access and exacerbated humanitarian concerns.

The current situation reflects a broader pattern of violence affecting both sides since the initial Arab-Israeli conflict in 1948.

According to an AFP tally based on data from the Palestinian health ministry, at least 1,072 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers since October 2023, including many individuals identified as militants.

In contrast, official Israeli figures indicate that at least 46 Israelis lost their lives during this period in attacks or military operations.

Refugee camps were established after the first Arab-Israeli war for Palestinians who fled or were displaced from what is now Israel in 1948.

These areas continue to face ongoing challenges and security measures, contributing to an environment of heightened tensions in the West Bank.
