Freed Israeli Hostages Call for Full Implementation of Gaza Ceasefire Deal

A group of 56 former captives urges Prime Minister Netanyahu to finalize the ceasefire agreement amid ongoing negotiations with Hamas.
More than 50 freed Israeli hostages have urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fully implement the ceasefire deal established for Gaza, emphasizing the urgency of securing the release of those still held in captivity within the territory.

In a letter shared via Instagram, the 56 freed hostages articulated their concerns, stating, "We who have experienced the inferno know that a return to war is life-threatening for those still left behind." The group called for the agreement to be enacted in its entirety and in a coordinated manner.

Among the signatories was Yarden Bibas, who tragically lost his wife and two young sons while they were held captive.

This plea coincided with the release of a video by Hamas featuring Israeli hostage Matan Angrest, who is alive and turned 22 last November.

In the footage, Angrest also appealed to Israeli authorities to move forward with the next phase of the ceasefire plan.

The initial phase of the Gaza ceasefire concluded on March 1, following six weeks of relative calm marked by mutual exchanges between Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

Despite the absence of resumed hostilities, Israel has indicated its desire to extend this phase until mid-April, while Hamas is advocating for a shift to the second phase, which is intended to secure a long-term cessation of conflict.

As of now, 58 hostages remain in Gaza, out of a total of 251 captured during the October 2023 assault on Israel, which includes 34 individuals confirmed by the Israeli military to be deceased.

In response to the situation, a high-level delegation from Hamas is scheduled to engage in discussions with Egyptian officials on Saturday to explore advancements in the ceasefire agreement and to outline the next steps regarding the second phase of the deal.

During these talks, Hamas is expected to press for Israel to fully adhere to the agreement, initiate discussions concerning the subsequent phase, and facilitate humanitarian aid by reopening border crossings into Gaza.

Their demands include a comprehensive ceasefire, a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the lifting of the blockade, support for the territory's reconstruction, and funding aligned with the outcomes of a recent Arab summit in Cairo.

Additionally, Hamas has expressed its readiness to negotiate a prisoner exchange that would include the release of all Israeli captives, including individuals holding American citizenship.
