Houthis Demand Immediate Humanitarian Aid Access to Gaza Amid Threats of Naval Attacks

The leader of the Houthi group issues a four-day ultimatum to Israel, jeopardizing aid efforts in Gaza.
Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi organization, has issued a four-day ultimatum to Israel, demanding the immediate entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In a televised statement on Al-Masirah TV, al-Houthi warned that if Israel continues to obstruct the delivery of food and medicine, the Houthis intend to resume naval military actions against Israeli vessels in the Red Sea.

This ultimatum arises following Israel's cessation of humanitarian aid to Gaza on March 2, 2025, effectively ending the initial phase of a ceasefire agreement that had been in place for 42 days since January 19, during which there had been a significant reduction in hostilities in the region.

The ceasefire agreement aimed to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, yet its implementation has faced significant challenges.

Hamas has condemned Israel's actions, asserting that the blockade constitutes a violation of the agreement.

Humanitarian organizations have expressed grave concerns over the situation in Gaza, warning of worsening conditions for the population already struggling due to prolonged conflict.

The blockade has garnered widespread condemnation from various quarters due to its impact on the delivery of essential supplies.

In the wake of the ongoing conflict, the Houthis have conducted numerous attacks targeting commercial and military vessels linked to Israel in the Arabian and Red Seas.

They have previously employed rocket and drone strikes targeting Israeli regions, citing solidarity with Gaza as a motivation for their actions.

In a related development, just prior to the issuance of the ultimatum, the United States re-designated the Houthi group as a 'Foreign Terrorist Organization' and imposed sanctions on seven of its senior leaders.

This designation has amplified tensions surrounding the conflicts in the region, as the deadline for the Houthis' ultimatum draws nearer.

The broader international community is closely monitoring the situation as it evolves, particularly regarding Israel's response to the ultimatum and the humanitarian implications for Gaza.
