Claims emerge following US air strikes on Houthi positions, exacerbating ongoing tensions in the region.
Houthi media outlets in Yemen accused the United States of launching attacks on Hodeida airport, a strategic location on the Red Sea coast, on March 22, 2025. The accusations, detailed by Al-Masirah TV, described the attacks as part of 'American aggression' against the Iran-backed militant group.
According to the Houthi claims, three separate strikes targeted the airport between March 19 and March 21.
This allegation comes in the wake of intensified military actions by the United States, which began a week earlier when the Central Command confirmed it had initiated 'continuous operations' against Houthi positions.
U.S. President
Donald Trump stated that the Houthis would be 'annihilated' following threats from the militants to renew assaults on Israeli shipping in the region.
On March 15, the U.S. government reported a significant wave of air strikes against Houthi forces, which officials stated resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking militant leaders.
The Houthi health ministry, however, reported a casualty figure of 53 individuals as a result of the strikes.
These developments mark a critical escalation in the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which has seen severe humanitarian impacts and drawn in regional and international powers over the years.
