DeepOcean and Jana Marine Launch Joint Venture to Deliver Subsea Services in Saudi Arabia

Norwegian DeepOcean and Saudi Jana Marine to form JADE Subsea Services, chartering a hybrid DP2 vessel for CMS five-year Middle East IMR contract
Norwegian subsea specialist DeepOcean and Saudi Arabia’s Jana Marine Services have signed a heads-of-terms agreement to establish a joint venture named JADE Subsea Services.

The partnership plans to enter a five-year charter with Jana Marine for a new-build DP2 hybrid dive-support vessel (DSV), specifically tailored for subsea construction, inspection, maintenance and repair operations in the Middle East.

The vessel, designated “Jana 201”, is currently under construction in China.

Measuring approximately 98 metres and equipped with dual 800 kW batteries and seven 1 800 kW generators, it will feature a 12-man saturation diving system, two air-diving spreads, a light-work ROV, a 100-tonne crane and accommodations for up to 120 personnel.

Delivery is slated for the third quarter of 2026.

DeepOcean will contribute specialist subsea engineering, project-management and removal-and-recycling services to the venture, while Jana Marine brings a fleet of some 35 offshore support vessels, local presence in Saudi Arabia and alignment with the country’s localisation programme.

The vessel will be time-chartered by JADE, operated from the Kingdom and offered to oil-and-gas clients throughout the region.

The move comes as DeepOcean expands its Middle-East footprint following the acquisition of Shelf Subsea in May 2025 and the deployment of its vessel Oriental Dragon in Saudi waters.

For Jana Marine, it builds deeper subsea capabilities and aligns with the Kingdom’s drive to increase domestic content in offshore servicing.

Both CEOs emphasised the strategic fit: DeepOcean’s Øyvind Mikaelsen noted that “We contribute our subsea services capabilities, technology and specialist engineering; together we will offer the offshore oil-and-gas industry in the Middle East a highly competitive and fully integrated subsea services solution.” Jana Marine’s Mohammad AlSubaie added: “We will provide purpose-built offshore support vessels and equipment, while DeepOcean brings its renowned subsea competence.”

JADE Subsea Services thus positions itself to support offshore oil-and-gas infrastructure in the Gulf region, leveraging modern hybrid-powered assets and combining local fleet strength with international competence—reflecting broader trends of localisation and capability-building in Saudi Arabia’s energy services sector.
