China Unveils Innovative AI Humanoid Child TongTong 2.0

Groundbreaking advancements in artificial intelligence showcased at the Zhongguancun Forum.
The Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence (BIGAI) has introduced TongTong 2.0, a revolutionary humanoid artificial intelligence designed to mimic the behaviors and characteristics of a 5- to 6-year-old child.

This development was revealed during the 2025 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) in Beijing, highlighting significant strides in AI technology from China.

TongTong 2.0 demonstrates advanced capabilities such as negotiation, emotional expression, and physical tasks typical of young children.

This includes actions like cleaning toys, wiping stains, taking off shoes, and organizing objects.

The AI system also displays behavioral patterns consistent with childhood, such as throwing tantrums and exhibiting reluctance towards completing tasks without incentives.

For instance, when requested to go to sleep or finish assigned duties, TongTong 2.0 responded by asking for rewards, emulating typical child-like negotiation tactics.

This new iteration builds on the original TongTong, which was launched in 2024 with more basic functionalities.

The enhancements in TongTong 2.0 encompass improvements in language use, movement precision, learning capacity, emotional responses, and overall interaction capabilities, reflecting ongoing advancements in AI research and development.

The unveiling of this technology not only illustrates China's progress in open-source AI development but also positions the country at the forefront of emerging AI-driven applications in both educational and caregiving sectors.

The TongTong series represents a broader trend in AI aiming to create more relatable and interactive machines that can engage with humans in increasingly complex ways.
