Escalating Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Amid Renewed Violence

Recent airstrikes claim lives of three Palestinians as aid access remains severely restricted.
On March 17, 2025, reports indicated that three Palestinians were killed and others injured in the Gaza Strip due to an airstrike conducted by an Israeli military drone.

This incident occurred despite an existing ceasefire agreement, which Israel has reportedly failed to uphold, exacerbating the humanitarian situation for the residents of the region.

The three fatalities were confirmed to have resulted from an aerial attack in the Wadi Gaza area, located in central Gaza.

Additionally, earlier on the evening of March 16, another Palestinian was killed by Israeli shelling in the Zeitoun neighborhood in southeastern Gaza City, in an attack targeting the area near Kuwait Roundabout.

The Gaza Health Ministry recently reported an alarming toll from the ongoing conflict, stating that since October 7, 2023, the cumulative casualties have reached 48,572 fatalities and over 112,032 injuries as a result of Israeli military actions.

In conjunction with the violence, the Israel Defense Forces have continued to enforce a blockade on the Karem Abu Salem crossing at the southern Gaza border for the 16th consecutive day.

This closure has resulted in the suspension of aid shipments and fuel deliveries, further deteriorating the humanitarian crisis marked by food shortages in the region.

The Gaza government’s media office relayed that the closures are critically impacting essential sectors, particularly healthcare, as shortages in medical supplies threaten the lives of thousands awaiting treatment.

Additionally, the prohibition on fuel imports has rendered public transport services inoperative, significantly hindering the mobility of patients requiring medical attention.

Furthermore, residents face a severe water crisis exacerbated by electricity shortages, which has disrupted the operation of water facilities across the territory.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that no humanitarian supplies have been allowed into Gaza since March 2, 2025. The continued blockade has prompted UNICEF to issue a warning about the impending risk of famine for children in Gaza, stating that one million minors are struggling to survive amid the lack of essential needs, and hundreds of thousands are without access to clean drinking water and sanitation services.

The EU Commissioner for International Partnerships described the situation in Gaza as extremely concerning and reaffirmed that international humanitarian law should not be negotiable.
