Technical discussions aimed at a ceasefire are set to begin in Saudi Arabia next week.
Washington, D.C. — Steve Witkoff, the United States special envoy to the Middle East, has announced that technical discussions regarding a potential ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict will commence on March 25, 2025, in Saudi Arabia.
In an interview, Witkoff expressed his optimism, suggesting that an agreement could emerge within a few weeks.
Witkoff revealed that the engagement follows a recent telephone conversation between U.S. President
Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they established a potential framework for ceasefire conditions.
“I believe on Monday we actually have the technical teams going to the Kingdom,” Witkoff stated.
While specific details regarding the upcoming negotiations were not disclosed, Witkoff indicated that all parties involved are committed to refining the terms of the ceasefire.
He noted, “It’s time for the technical teams to dot the I’s and cross the T’s.”
In a related statement, Trump's National Security Adviser Mike Waltz conveyed positive sentiments regarding the diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
He mentioned his recent discussions with his Russian counterpart, Yuri Ushakov, emphasizing the importance of the technical teams' meeting in Riyadh to build upon the partial ceasefire achieved earlier by President Trump.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also acknowledged the dialogue, indicating a potential meeting between Ukrainian and American officials in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to further their discussions on peace.
He stated that both Ukrainian and American teams were prepared to collaborate on measures aimed at achieving stability in the region.
The geopolitical landscape remains sensitive, with ongoing monitoring required as the situation develops and further details from the negotiations become available.
