Heavy Casualties Reported in Gaza Amid Escalating Conflict
Israeli airstrikes result in numerous fatalities as Prime Minister Netanyahu vows to intensify military operations.
Medical sources in Gaza report that at least 77 Palestinians have died due to Israeli airstrikes across various areas of the region since early morning on April 2, 2025. In the ongoing conflict, Palestinian resistance groups launched a series of rocket attacks targeting Israeli towns including Sderot, Nir Am, and Kfar Aza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a statement vowing to 'dissect' the Gaza Strip amid the heightened hostilities.
Among the airstrikes, Israeli forces targeted a health center operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which was sheltering displaced individuals in the Al-Jabaliya camp in northern Gaza.
This attack resulted in the deaths of 19 individuals, including nine children, causing significant destruction.
Paramedics on the scene reported challenges in identifying the bodies of victims due to burns sustained from the bombings.
Additionally, local reports indicate that four Palestinians were killed in an airstrike on a police patrol in Deir al-Balah, located in the center of the Gaza Strip.
The deceased included three police officers and a civilian child, with the remains transported to the Shahid Al-Aqsa Hospital.
In Khan Younis, eight Palestinians, including two children, were also reported killed as a result of an Israeli airstrike targeting a group of civilians in the Al-Salam neighborhood in the southeastern part of the city.
The Israeli Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, announced the expansion of military operations in Rafah to gain control over significant areas of Gaza, intending to include these into Israeli security zones.
In his statement, Gallant urged Gaza's residents to dismantle Hamas and called for the return of Israeli captives, asserting this as the only means to end the ongoing conflict.
The health situation in Gaza has been described as dire, with Manir Al-Barsh, the Director-General of the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, reporting severe shortages of medical supplies after 33 days of closures and blockades preventing aid access.
According to United Nations reports, nearly 140,000 people have been displaced since the resumption of hostilities in March, with tens of thousands fleeing their homes in the past week alone.
The evacuation orders from Israeli authorities are reported to cover extensive areas in both northern and southern Gaza, highlighting the overwhelming humanitarian crisis.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has indicated that over one million residents of Gaza require tents, while many are in need of materials to support temporary housing solutions.
Given the overcrowding in available shelters, displaced individuals are reportedly seeking refuge in damaged buildings that are at risk of collapse.
Furthermore, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has reported that some individuals in Gaza are ignoring evacuation orders due to the challenging conditions associated with relocation.
In a related development, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Al-Quds Brigades, has confirmed that they launched rockets targeting Sderot, Nir Am, and Kfar Aza.
The Israeli military stated that its air defense systems intercepted two rockets launched from northern Gaza towards Israel.
As Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu continues his military campaign rhetoric, he announced the IDF's control over the Morag axis, declaring it a crucial strategic point akin to the Philadelphia Route.
He emphasized the ongoing efforts to exert pressure on Gaza until Israel's demands are met concerning captured individuals.
Since the renewal of operations against Gaza on March 18, 2025, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that over 1,042 Palestinians have been killed, with 2,542 others injured, primarily women and children.
Since October 7, 2023, the ongoing conflict has resulted in over 164,000 casualties, with approximately 11,000 individuals reported missing.
