Hundreds Flee Jenin Amid Intensified Israeli Operations in the West Bank

Israeli military operation 'Iron Wall' leads to mass displacement in Jenin amid heightened crackdown in the West Bank.
The city of Jenin in the West Bank is experiencing a significant exodus of residents as Israeli forces continue their military operations, now entering their third day under the code name 'Iron Wall.' The operation, initiated after a ceasefire in Gaza, aims to target militants allegedly regrouping in the region.

According to Jenin governor Kamal Abu al-Rub, hundreds have evacuated following Israeli army announcements via loudspeakers on drones and military vehicles urging residents to leave the refugee camp.

Reports from Israeli public radio suggest that approximately 2,000 individuals have been displaced after being inspected by Israeli forces.

Described by Israeli officials as a preventative measure against potential militant attacks, the operation has involved heavy military presence, the deployment of drones and heavy weaponry, and restrictions on movement within the West Bank, including enhanced checkpoints.

Residents such as Saleh Ammar recount the forced exodus from their homes, describing hardships encountered while fleeing, including challenges in retrieving essential medication.

For many, this mirrors the destruction seen in the Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza.

The situation is compounded by allegations from some residents that Palestinian Authority (PA) forces attacked the camp before the Israeli incursion to assist in targeting militant groups.

The PA is reported to have initiated similar operations in December to combat opposition militias.

International bodies such as the Norwegian Refugee Council have raised concerns about potential unlawful use of force and the impact of such operations on civilians, citing fatalities and numerous injuries among residents and medics.

As the military presence continues, surveillance and stringent movement restrictions across major West Bank cities raise additional humanitarian concerns.

The situation remains closely monitored by international observatories and humanitarian groups as developments unfold.
