Leonardo DRS Deepens Saudi Defence Cooperation with Advanced Battlefield Technology Partnership

The US-linked defence firm strengthens ties in the Kingdom to support modernisation of Saudi military capabilities and local industrial growth
Leonardo DRS, a major global provider of defence technology, is leveraging strategic partnerships in Saudi Arabia to bolster the Kingdom’s defence modernisation efforts and cultivate local industry capabilities.

In recent months the company has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Saudi Arabian Military Industries’ Advanced Electronics Company to explore collaboration on advanced battlespace situational awareness technologies and rugged vehicle computing systems that will support operations for the Saudi Ministry of Defence and National Guard.

This move reflects Riyadh’s ambition to enhance its defensive posture while building a sustainable domestic defence ecosystem aligned with Vision 2030.

Under the agreement, Leonardo DRS will work with its Saudi partner to provide cutting-edge command, control and communications technologies, including vehicle-mounted combat computing servers, rugged displays and thermal vision enhancements.

These systems are intended to improve command and control, navigation and force tracking for land forces, integrating advanced situational awareness solutions that are interoperable with modern digital battlefield networks.

The partnership emphasises in-Kingdom production, workforce development and technology transfer to support the long-term operational readiness of Saudi defence forces.

Bill Guyan, President of International Business for Leonardo DRS, said the firm brings proven combat-tested solutions to allied militaries and is committed to supporting Saudi Arabia’s defence needs while fostering local industrial capability.

He noted that the collaboration is designed to integrate advanced technologies with domestic manufacturing expertise, contributing both to national security and economic diversification goals.

The agreement comes amid a broader regional trend of defence modernisation, with Riyadh pursuing integrated solutions that enhance interoperability with allied forces and prepare its armed forces for contemporary threats.

Beyond Saudi Arabia, Leonardo DRS has expanded partnerships across the Middle East and North Africa, working with governments and industry stakeholders in multiple countries to provide networked defence technologies and build local technical expertise.

The company’s approach blends advanced battle management systems with local production and training initiatives, aiming to strengthen national defence infrastructures and sustain long-term operational impact.
