Ceremony of Israeli Soldiers' Remains in Gaza Provokes Wide Reactions

The exchange of Israeli soldiers' remains by Hamas has sparked significant engagement on social media and raises questions about military conduct.
The recent ceremony for the transfer of the first batch of Israeli soldiers' remains in the Gaza Strip has garnered extensive attention across social media platforms.

The military wing of Hamas, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, displayed a large banner featuring an image of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu depicted as a vampire.

The banner read, 'They were killed by war criminal Netanyahu and his Nazi army with missiles from Zionist warplanes.'

Hamas has officially accused the Israeli military of killing prisoners from the Bibas family and Oudi Levishts, stating that efforts were made to ensure the safety of the Israeli prisoners, but the enemy killed them along with their captors by bombing their detention sites.

Each Israeli soldier's body was placed in a black coffin that bore their photo, name, and date of death.

The International Committee of the Red Cross then transferred each coffin into an SUV for transport back to Israel.

The method of transfer has drawn comparisons to the Israeli military's practice of returning Palestinian bodies, which are often placed in blue bags and stacked in trucks for burial in mass graves, highlighting a stark contrast in how both sides handle such sensitive matters.

Additional banners were erected at the transfer site in Bani Suheila, Khan Younis, indicating a message linking the return of corpses to ongoing hostilities.

One such banner stated, 'The return of war equals the return of prisoners in coffins,' suggesting a grim fate for Israeli prisoners if military actions persist.

Hamas showcased two GBU-39 bombs, manufactured in the United States, alongside the coffins, with inscriptions claiming, 'They were killed by American bombs.'

Israeli media reported that Osama Tabash, commander of the Eastern Brigade in Khan Younis who was declared dead by the Israeli army in September, attended the ceremony, alongside other commanders previously announced as killed during the current conflict.

Social media commentary reflected on the transfer of the remains, with many praising the strategic communication tactics employed by Hamas.

Participants in the discussion highlighted the lasting impact of the details conveyed and the messages sent, describing them as indelible marks on Israeli memory.

Prime Minister Netanyahu characterized the day as difficult, sad, and shocking for Israel, while reports indicated that he had reconsidered his intention to participate in the ceremony for receiving the remains of the hostages.
