Israeli Military Operations Escalate in Southern Lebanon Amid Hezbollah Tensions

Israel targets Hezbollah infrastructure as accusations emerge of Iranian financial support through Beirut airport.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified military operations in southern Lebanon, focusing on dismantling Hezbollah's infrastructure.

Recent operations have uncovered extensive networks of bunkers and tunnels used by Hezbollah militants.

One such facility, located approximately seven meters underground, was discovered alongside another stretching over one and a half kilometers, equipped with supplies and weaponry.

These findings highlight Hezbollah’s entrenchment in the region.

Meanwhile, Israel has accused Iran of smuggling large sums of cash to Hezbollah through Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport.

According to Israeli claims, Iran is transferring tens of millions of dollars in suitcases to support Hezbollah’s activities.

These allegations have been presented to the U.S.-led ceasefire committee overseeing the truce in Lebanon.

Both Turkey and Lebanon have denied these accusations, while Iran maintains that it does not use passenger planes for such purposes.

In response, Lebanon’s caretaker Interior Minister, Bassam Mawlawi, stated that security authorities at Beirut’s airport are effectively carrying out their responsibilities.

Following a meeting with the Central Security Council, Mawlawi announced the establishment of new checkpoints to inspect all items entering through the airport.

He also emphasized the Lebanese army’s role in securing the border with Syria despite ongoing challenges and called for increased cooperation from Syrian authorities.

On the Syrian side, the Ministry of Interior reported the seizure of weapons shipments intended for smuggling into Lebanon through land routes in the Talkalakh area of Homs.

Images released by Syrian state media showed assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, and ammunition, suggesting continued attempts to arm groups within Lebanon.

Amid these developments, the IDF reported the elimination of several Hezbollah members and the detention of individuals considered threats to Israeli forces.

Additionally, Israeli airstrikes have targeted vehicles transporting weapons and ammunition, as well as Hezbollah storage facilities.

The situation remains tense, with ongoing military operations and diplomatic efforts addressing the security challenges in southern Lebanon and along the Lebanon-Syria border.
