Israeli Army Issues Evacuation Warning for Southern Gaza

A new evacuation warning comes amid escalating military actions following rocket fire towards Israel.
The Israeli army has issued a warning for Palestinian residents to evacuate areas in southern Gaza, following rocket fire from central Gaza targeting the Nahal Oz region.

Avichay Adraee, a spokesperson for the Israeli army, made the announcement on the social media platform X, urging all residents located in the Old Gaza City, Sobra, Tel al-Hawa, and the Western Zaytoun neighborhoods to evacuate.

Adraee described the announcement as a final warning prior to an impending attack, and he shared a map indicating the evacuation zones on social media.

In response to the recent hostilities, the Israeli military reported successfully intercepting a rocket fired from within Gaza.

The military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Saraya al-Quds, claimed responsibility for the rocket launch.

After a fragile two-month ceasefire, Israel has resumed its heavy bombing campaign across the Gaza Strip, initiating new ground operations in both northern and southern areas.

The recent airstrikes have been unprecedented in terms of both intensity and scope since the ceasefire began, evoking memories of the earlier stages of the conflict that caused significant destruction and led to a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

The ceasefire had provided a relatively calm period, allowing for the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees, along with facilitating additional humanitarian aid to the region.

The first phase of the ceasefire lasted six weeks, resulting in the release of 33 hostages, including eight deceased individuals, in exchange for over 1,800 Palestinian prisoners.

The conflict escalated significantly following an attack by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,218 individuals on the Israeli side, based on figures reported by official Israeli sources, including hostages who died in captivity.

Currently, 58 hostages from a total of 251 abducted during the Hamas attack remain unaccounted for in Gaza, with the Israeli military stating that 34 of these individuals are confirmed deceased.
