Israeli Forces Continue Military Operations in West Bank Amid Ongoing Tensions
Recent actions by Israeli forces have resulted in demolitions and clashes in towns across the West Bank, intensifying an already volatile situation.
Israeli military operations in the West Bank have escalated, with reports emerging of significant demolitions and confrontations in several regions.
On February 20, 2025, Palestinian sources reported that an Israeli military vehicle collided with a Palestinian car in the city of Tulkarem, resulting in injuries to the occupants.
This incident occurred amid a broader pattern of Israeli operations in the northern West Bank, where military forces have been active for over a month.
In Salfit, Israeli forces reportedly demolished the home of Palestinian national Amr Awda early on the same day.
A military incursion was conducted during the night, where troops surrounded the building, evacuated the residents, and subsequently detonated explosives within the structure.
Salfit has witnessed increased military activity recently, reflecting a trend across various towns in the region.
In Nablus, Israeli forces demolished a house in the village of Majdal Bani Fadel, south of the city.
Local reports reveal that the military compelled a Palestinian family, headed by Mohammed Abu Za'id, to evacuate before initiating the demolition of their residence.
The situation in Jenin remains critical as well, with Israeli military action described as sustained.
For the 31st consecutive day, Israeli forces have restricted movement for thousands of Palestinians from the Jenin refugee camp, preventing them from returning to their homes.
Reinforcements have been sent to the camp, including heavy machinery and generators, as Israeli forces begin road construction that impacts local residences.
In Tulkarem, aside from the collision noted earlier, videos circulating on social media have shown the Israeli military setting fire to a residential building in the Nur Shams refugee camp, further exacerbating the situation on the ground.
In Ramallah and al-Bireh, Israeli forces conducted raids in several towns, including Turmus Ayya, Kubar, and Birzeit.
Reports indicate that troops deployed tear gas within a public transport vehicle at the entrance of Turmus Ayya, contributing to the tense atmosphere.
The recent military escalation has resulted in significant casualties.
Since January 21, 2025, military actions in northern West Bank have reportedly led to the deaths of 59 Palestinians, while thousands have been displaced and substantial damage to property and infrastructure has occurred.
Following the conflict that escalated in Gaza, attacks have reportedly intensified across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, with at least 920 Palestinians reported killed, close to 7,000 injured, and 14,500 arrested, according to official Palestinian data.
Israeli government officials have signaled intentions to ramp up demolitions, with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich indicating that 2025 will see a record number of demolitions exceeding new constructions in the West Bank, marking a significant shift in policy since 1967. This ongoing cycle of violence and retaliatory action has further complicated the geopolitical landscape in the region.
