Israeli Military Confirms Interception Amid Gaza Ceasefire Developments
Explosions were reported over Jerusalem as sirens alerted residents across the city and central Israel on Saturday morning, according to AFP journalists.
The Israeli military confirmed that a projectile had been launched from Yemen and successfully intercepted.
This incident occurred following Qatar’s announcement that a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict was scheduled to commence at 0630 GMT on Sunday.
The alert in Jerusalem was activated at approximately 10:20 am local time (08:20 GMT), just after warning sirens were heard in response to the projectile launch.
Minutes after the sirens, the Israeli military stated that the projectile from Yemen had been intercepted successfully.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, have initiated several missile and drone attacks targeting Israel since October 2023, coinciding with the escalation of the Gaza conflict.
On Friday, the Houthis issued a warning indicating that they would persist with their attacks unless Israel adhered to the ceasefire terms agreed upon with Hamas.
