Zelensky Criticizes Putin's Ceasefire Statements as Deceptive

Ukrainian President highlights concerns over Russia's commitment to peace amid ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent comments regarding a proposed U.S. ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kyiv as 'manipulative,' accusing him of delaying tactics to prolong hostilities.

In his evening address, Zelensky stated, 'We have all heard Putin's anticipated words full of manipulation,' and emphasized the need for increased pressure on Moscow.

Zelensky claimed that Russia is preparing conditions for a ceasefire intended to either delay or entirely prevent it from occurring.

He remarked, 'In fact, he is preparing a refusal now, as Putin is, of course, afraid of telling President Trump that he wants to continue this war and wants to kill Ukrainians.' The Ukrainian leader reiterated that Moscow is imposing these conditions on the idea of a ceasefire to ensure that nothing happens at all, or at least that nothing occurs for as long as possible.

Zelensky mentioned that Washington has expressed readiness to organize a monitoring process for any potential ceasefire, facilitated by U.S. and European capabilities.

He noted that a ceasefire would provide time 'to prepare answers to all the questions regarding long-term security and establishing a real and reliable peace, and to propose a plan to end the war.' Concurrently, President Putin has stated that Russia 'supports' the ceasefire proposed by the U.S. in Ukraine but raised concerns about 'nuanced disagreements' and 'serious questions' that remain unresolved.

In a press conference at the Kremlin, Putin said, 'We support it, but there are some nuanced disagreements,' questioning how to ensure that such a situation does not occur again and how the monitoring process will be organized, labeling these as serious questions.

He also expressed the need to discuss these issues with U.S. partners and possibly get in touch with President Trump.
