A locally made explosives attack targets a bank, injuring seven others.
A suicide bombing in Kunduz, northern
Afghanistan, resulted in the deaths of five individuals on Tuesday.
The victims included civilians and members of the Taliban security forces who were guarding a bank in the city.
Local police spokesperson Jummauddin Khaksar reported that the attack was carried out by a bomber equipped with locally made explosives during the early morning hours.
Additionally, seven people sustained injuries in the incident.
Khaksar stated that among the deceased were civilians, government employees, and Taliban security personnel.
He noted that the Kunduz provincial police command is collaborating with relevant organizations to determine the perpetrators of the attack and ensure accountability.
The attack comes in the context of a significant reduction in violence in
Afghanistan since the Taliban regained power in August 2021, ousting the U.S.-backed government.
In March 2022, another suicide bombing outside a bank in Kandahar killed at least three people, an attack claimed by the regional affiliate of ISIS.
Despite the overall decrease in attacks, various armed groups, including ISIS, continue to pose security threats in
Afghanistan.
The evolving dynamics of terrorism and security within the country remain a critical concern for authorities and citizens alike.
