Yens Frederik Nielsen asserts that Greenland will not become a territory of the United States following President Trump's statements on potential acquisition.
Yens Frederik Nielsen, the Prime Minister of Greenland, reiterated on Sunday that the United States will not take control of the island, responding to comments made by President
Donald Trump regarding the acquisition of the vast Arctic territory.
In a post on
Facebook, Nielsen stated, 'President Trump says that the United States will take over Greenland.
Let me be clear: the United States will not get its way.
We do not belong to anyone else.
We are the ones who determine our future.'
The remarks from Nielsen come after Trump indicated during an NBC News interview on Saturday that he had conducted 'serious discussions' regarding the annexation of the autonomous Danish territory.
He proclaimed, 'We will take Greenland.
Yes, one hundred percent.'
Additionally, during a visit to a U.S. military base in northern Greenland on Friday, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance criticized Denmark for allegedly failing to ensure the island's security, suggesting that the United States could provide better protection due to its strategic location.
The ongoing discussions surrounding Greenland reflect heightened geopolitical interest in the Arctic region amid concerns over security, resource exploration, and climate change.
