Israeli Authorities Confirm Identification of Mohammed Sinwar's Remains

The body of Mohammed Sinwar, a prominent Hamas military leader, has been recovered from a tunnel in southern Gaza.
Israeli authorities announced on Sunday that they have conclusively identified the remains of Mohammed Sinwar, a key leader of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.

Sinwar, who is the younger brother of the late Yahya Sinwar, was reportedly retrieved from an underground tunnel located in the vicinity of the European Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

According to reports, the identification process included the examination of various bodies, with Sinwar's remains among those confirmed.

Specific details regarding the other bodies unearthed in the interconnected tunnel complex have not been disclosed.

Israeli military radio reported the discovery of ten bodies belonging to Palestinian leaders and fighters affiliated with Hamas within the tunnel.

Video footage released by the Israeli military purportedly shows a large tunnel beneath the hospital, which the army claims is utilized by Hamas.

Subsequently, a military operation was initiated in the area surrounding the tunnel, supported by extensive aerial bombardments, following the full evacuation of the hospital.

In contrast, the Gaza government media office issued a statement disputing the Israeli narrative, claiming that the video depicted a narrow iron pipe insufficient for human passage, lacking stairs or fixtures.

They asserted that the area shown in the video is a rainwater drainage site, alleging that the Israeli forces had excavated the location and placed the pipe to produce the visual presented.

On May 21, following several days of bombardment in the region, sources within Hamas confirmed that members of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades had located Sinwar's body along with other figures.

It was reported that the remains were transferred to a neighboring tunnel for burial until conditions improved for their relocation to another site.

Family members were reportedly informed of Sinwar's death, a communication also extended to the families of other leadership figures.

Sources indicated that the Qassam leadership dispatched special units into the destroyed tunnel to locate the bodies, confirming that Sinwar, along with several field commanders, were killed in the same area, resembling the approach taken during the assassination of political bureau members Ruhi Mushtaha and Samih al-Saraj, whose deaths were also previously reported.
