Syria's newly appointed interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, pledged to convene a national dialogue conference during his first address since assuming office.

In the televised speech, Sharaa emphasized the importance of preserving Syria's civil peace and territorial unity, and announced the formation of a committee to prepare for the dialogue, which aims to include diverse political viewpoints.

He also committed to issuing a constitutional declaration as a legal foundation for the transitional phase, following the suspension of the former constitution.

Sharaa vowed to pursue accountability for crimes committed during the civil war, including massacres and crimes against the Syrian people.

The speech followed a historic visit by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who underscored the urgent need for an inclusive government to ensure stability and progress in Syria.

Qatar has pledged support for Syria's reconstruction, including infrastructure and electricity.

In addition to Qatar’s support, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent congratulations to Sharaa on his appointment, signaling continued diplomatic engagement.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II also expressed support, while senior officials from Russia, Turkey, France, and Germany have visited Damascus in recent weeks.

Sharaa has also been tasked with establishing a transitional legislature and dissolving armed groups that were involved in the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's government.
