Sara Netanyahu: A Closer Look at the Influential Role of Israel's First Lady

Despite facing numerous controversies and investigations, Sara Netanyahu continues to play a prominent role in her husband's political career.
Jerusalem – The presence of Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during recent high-level meetings with US President Donald Trump has reignited debates over her influence within Israeli politics.

As the prime minister's third wife and mother of two of his children, Sara Netanyahu has long been a subject of public interest, often for her alleged involvement in political decisions.

During this week's visit to Washington, Sara accompanied her husband on official meetings at the Pentagon and was photographed dining with Trump.

While her presence is not uncommon, it fuels speculation about her level of influence over governmental matters.

The Netanyahus' trip began with the resignation of Prime Minister Netanyahu's spokesman, Omer Dostri, followed by a denial that Sara had any role in this decision despite media claims.

Sara Netanyahu has faced numerous investigations, including accusations of corruption and fraud, as well as scrutiny regarding her husband's ongoing graft trial.

Despite these controversies, she remains a significant figure in Israeli public life, often targeted for her alleged interference in state affairs.

In response to such allegations, Prime Minister Netanyahu has publicly denied that his wife is involved in cabinet appointments or has access to state secrets.

In recent years, Sara Netanyahu has been associated with several key political moments, including the appointment of Israel's Shin Bet security service head and her apparent influence on strategic issues concerning the ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza.

Journalist Ben Caspit has even referred to her as the 'real prime minister,' suggesting that she wields considerable behind-the-scenes power.

Despite the controversies surrounding her, Prime Minister Netanyahu maintains a supportive stance towards his wife, describing her as a 'wonderful partner' in an interview with Fox News.

The exact nature and extent of Sara Netanyahu's influence on Israeli politics remain topics of debate, with many questioning whether she plays a more significant role than officially acknowledged.
