Houthi Missile Strike in Tel Aviv Injures Several Amid Ongoing Gaza Conflict

Missile from Yemen lands in public park, as regional tensions escalate between Iran-backed Houthis and Israel
In a significant escalation of regional conflict, a missile strike attributed to the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen has resulted in injuries to over a dozen people in Tel Aviv, Israel.

According to the Israeli military, the projectile landed in a public park early Saturday after attempts to intercept it were unsuccessful.

The Houthi movement, which controls the north-western region of Yemen, claimed the strike, stating it was launched in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

A Houthi military spokesman declared that a hypersonic ballistic missile was used, targeting military installations.

Since the conflict in Gaza resumed in October 2023, about 400 missiles and drones have reportedly been launched from Yemen targeting Israel, with the vast majority intercepted.

This recent attack underscores the regional complexities and the extensive reach of the conflict beyond immediate borders.

Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's emergency medical service, reported treating 16 individuals with minor injuries from glass shards caused by the force of the explosion in the surrounding area.

Additionally, 14 more sustained minor injuries as they sought refuge in protected areas.

In retaliation to Houthi aggressions, earlier in the week, Israel conducted strategic strikes against what were said to be Houthi military positions.

These included key ports and energy infrastructure in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

Houthi-aligned media, Al Masirah TV, reported casualties in these strikes, with nine individuals reportedly killed at the port of Salif and the Ras Issa oil terminal.

The Houthis have declared their intention to maintain pressure through continued attacks until the cessation of hostilities in Gaza.

The sustained Houthi missile and drone campaign has not only raised alarms in Israel but also highlights the broader regional power dynamics at play, particularly the influence of Iran in supporting Houthi operations.

This incident is part of a broader geopolitical confrontation involving various actors and represents a worrying extension of the conflict beyond the borders of Israel and the Palestinian territories, complicating prospects for regional stability.
